What is Phosphorus?

Phosphorus is the second most abundant mineral in the body, after calcium. Most phosphorus in our body is found in the our bones and teeth. The rest is distributed in the body's blood and other fluids.

First and foremost, phosphorus strengthens bones and teeth. This mineral also plays an important role in almost every important chemical reaction in the body. It is needed for the production of energy and the utilization of protein, fat and carbohydrates.

Phosphorus and calcium must be in the proper ratio of 2 to 1 in the bone, otherwise an excess in phosphorus can potentially lead to the demineralization that leads to osteoporosis.
