What is Vitamin B3? What is Niacin?

Vitamin B3, also known as niacin or niacinamide, helps the body get energy from protein, fat and carbohydrates. It is a co-enzyme that helps maintain healthy skin, properly functioning gastrointestinal tract and nervous system.

Vitamin B3 Food Sources:
Beef
Pork
Fish
Milk and cheese
Whole wheat
Potatoes
Corn and corn products
Eggs
Broccoli
Tomatoes
Carrots

It is best to steam, bake or stir fry these foods, to help prevent the loss of this vitamin in cooking water.

Our bodies can make niacinamide from tryptophan, found in food from animals, but this represents only a small amount of what our bodies need.
