What is Vitamin B12? What is Cobalamin?

Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is best known for its role in blood formation, and particularly in forming red blood cells in the marrow. In addition, it helps the body break down and use fat and protein. Vitamin B12 helps to maintain proper nervous system function.

Vitamin B12 Food Sources:

Vitamin B12 can be found in animal based food sources, such as:
Dairy
Eggs
Fish
Meat
Poultry
Lamb and beef kidney; and lamb, beef, pork and calf livers have the highest content of B12.
Beef, mackerel and herring are also good sources.

Our bodies can also produce B12 in the intestines, but there is uncertainty as to how much of this is absorbed by the body.
